The end of the year marks a time for reflection. Whether in your personal or professional life (preferably both), it’s always a positive practice to look back on your progress from the past year and determine how you can improve in the year to come. While some resolutions tend to fall by the wayside, there are tangible goals that LOs can set that are supported by daily routines. Here are some resolutions that loan officers can set that will start off 2023 in the best way possible:
Be More Social
I wrote recently on how LOs can be better networkers (here), and a great resolution for the new year is to be more social. What does that mean exactly? It means actively connecting with more people who share similar interests and ambitions; and connecting with more of the people who can help you grow your business. You might consider this ‘upgrading your network’.
Your online networks could use some attention too. Revamping your social-media profiles is a good place to spend some time. If your social-media pages look like an abandoned building, it's time to put in the work to make sure they express your brand in the best possible way. Particularly in the case of LinkedIn, it’s important your profile is an accurate representation of your accomplishments and current business-happenings. All of your social-media profiles are great places to share insightful and interesting content on a regular basis. You can also use your social media to network with prospective clients and other industry professionals.
Prioritize Your Work-Life Balance
This is the best time of year to make achieving a healthy work-life balance a top priority. You know that old adage ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’? Well, you can’t function at your best for your team and clients if you’re completely burnt out. Set new boundaries and make time for your personal life so that you can unwind from your work life. This way you can return to the office refreshed and ready to go.
Make Time to Unplug
This goes along with prioritizing your work-life balance. Make time to unplug occasionally. Set aside times when you choose to live in the present and disconnect from all the technology that we interact with on a daily basis. This is going to be somewhat dependent on how you live your personal life. Whether you dedicate a day to spending time with family or taking a day-long hike, the important part is that you’re giving yourself time to unwind and get out of your business mindset. Giving yourself the space to disconnect almost always allows you to come back more ready to engage with your work and everyone around you.
I’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and the very best 2023!
